The Super Bowl ads left a lot to be desired last night—with a few notable exceptions. The latest teaser for Raya and the Last Dragon doesn’t have a lot of new footage, but what there is mostly spotlights the dragon Sisu, who is not quite the regal beast some stories might lead you to believe.
Last month’s full trailer, of course, has a lot more to offer. But this one balances Sisu’s goofiness with the film’s earnest message about learning to trust and work with others. The official summary explains:
Long ago, in the fantasy world of Kumandra, humans and dragons lived together in harmony. But when an evil force threatened the land, the dragons sacrificed themselves to save humanity. Now, 500 years later, that same evil has returned and it’s up to a lone warrior, Raya, to track down the legendary last dragon to restore the fractured land and its divided people. However, along her journey, she’ll learn that it’ll take more than a dragon to save the world—it’s going to take trust and teamwork as well.
Raya is one of the first Disney films to be developed remotely, due to the pandemic, and the first to be inspired by Southeast Asia. It has a top-notch creative team in directors Don Hall (Moana) and Carlos López Estrada (Blindspotting) and writers Qui Nguyen and Adele Lim (Crazy Rich Asians).
Raya and the Last Dragon arrives on Disney+ on March 5th.
